Job Requirements

Primary Duties:

• Operate lathe rotating machinery on a regular basis
• Determine metal flow in dies, select allowances, and perform difficult development work
• Make tool try-outs and diagnose/correct issues
• Work from drawings, sketches, and instructions, or from own conception
• Review engineer drawings and recommend design changes
• Select materials, dimensional allowance for fits, tolerances, and material treatment methods
• Perform machining operations requiring complicated and unusual set ups involving frequent improvising and adoption of tooling
• Construct temporary fixtures, jigs; grind special purpose tools and improvise measuring devices
• Assist and instruct die makers and tool room machinists
• Set-up new or modified tooling and instruct machine operators on their use

Qualifications:

• Advanced shop mathematics and experience equivalent to a completed apprenticeship or two-year technical college education
• Ability to use various tools, equipment and materials of the trade
• Ability to manage multiple projects/ priorities in a very dynamic atmosphere
• Lathe experience strongly preferred
